Join us at our Future of Nonfiction Video Un-Conference! ✨

FUTURE OF NONFICTION VIDEO '25

Convening the brightest minds to collectively question what is and isn’t working in nonfiction video.

Feb 7-8, 2025. Powered by Knight Foundation, hosted by Columbia Journalism School.

What is this?

This is not a conference! Join leading journalists, filmmakers, creators, and newsrooms of all kinds to collaboratively explore the future of nonfiction video in shaping how information is shared and consumed. No traditional panels, no keynote speakers; only intimate, open conversations between established and emerging professionals about what’s working, what’s not, and how we can move things forward, together.

The Chatham House rule will be applied to small group discussions.

What's the schedule and format?

Space is limited. We highly encourage you to attend both days. Please join us for:

  • Friday, February 7th, 2025, 6-9pm: An industry-shifting collaborative panel discussion, an inspiring screening and Q&A, cocktails and music-laden festivities.
  • Saturday: February 8th, 2025, 9am-5:30pm: A day-long unconference-esque summit to level the industry playing field, unearth solutions, and move the industry towards a more sustainable, innovative, and impactful future. Breakfast, lunch, interim snacks, and tunes provided.
When and where is FONV?

Columbia Journalism School, New York City.

Friday, February 7th, 6-9pm (doors open at 5pm), Saturday, February 8th, 9-5:30pm (doors open at 9am).

What are the requirements to attend?

You must be actively involved in journalism and/or documentary, either as a professional or as a student, and be open, willing, and excited to exchange solutions-focused ideas and play an active role in group conversations around creativity, sustainability and impact for video journalism and the industry at large. You must also be excited to actively listen and be in community with those who're below and above your professional level; everyone is putting their heads together!
