Director, Programs – The Video Consortium
Location: Remote
Application Deadline: Rolling, until position is filled
The Video Consortium is looking for a thoughtful, detail-oriented, extremely proactive, and driven Director of Programs to join our fully remote team. This role sits at the heart of VC’s global operations, charting the vision for VC’s programs and acting as the connective tissue between teams, initiatives, and membership — ensuring cohesion and consistency across all of VC’s program offerings, communications, and partnerships.
The ideal candidate is a systems thinker who thrives on collaboration, has an intuitive grasp of narrative and impact, and understands how to guide multifaceted projects from vision to execution. They also, vitally, are deeply familiar with the media industry across documentary, journalism, and new media sectors (youtube, creators, etc). This person will be excited by the opportunity to work closely with team leads across departments, lead the charge on cross-regional programming efforts, and innovatively push boundaries to support creatives and communities around the world.
💡 Please note: this role will not be a fit for an active filmmaker or artist, and candidates are eligible if they have experience in both documentary and journalism industries.
Program Strategy + Development
Collaborate with our core team on brainstorming, planning, and executing both new and ongoing programs and initiatives.
Collaborate with managers who lead our community hubs (in the United States and around the world) and regional programs (in Latin American, Africa, and Asia) to strengthen VC’s impact and ensure programmatic priorities are actively empowering local communities within their own cultures and storytelling practices.
Holistically support the Executive Director, especially to craft new programs and strengthen existing initiatives.
Help spearhead and track content partnerships and grant-related programming deliverables and timelines, particularly for regionally-based or international initiatives.
Ensure all programs — from podcasts to fellowships to local gatherings — cohesively align with VC’s mission, goals, and brand voice and are responsive to community needs.
Actively monitor industry changes to adjust our programs to fit creatives’ needs and remain in conversation with VC’s partners and collaborators.
Organizational Cohesion
Maintain a bird’s-eye view of all externally-facing programming and serve as the central connector between departments, regions, and projects.
Lead recurring meetings with each department head to synchronize timelines, content strategies, event planning, and communications to ensure proper source allocation, promotion, and execution on schedule.
Work closely with the Director of Operations to ensure alignment in team workflows and consistency of processes.
Edit and provide feedback on event listings, podcast show notes, and editorial columns to ensure tone, clarity, and cohesion.
Ensure VC maintains its warm tone and brand voice as it expands into new regions and speaks new languages.
5+ years of experience in media program / project management within the documentary, journalism, or media nonprofit space.
Deep familiarity with and connections in the media landscape (in both documentary and journalism industries), with a strong interest in emerging forms of storytelling.
Experience managing remote teams and working across time zones, cultures, and platforms.
Strong editorial sensibility and ease in evaluating writing, tone, and visual messaging with a critical eye.
Highly organized and extraordinarily detail-oriented, with an ability to balance many moving parts and deadlines.
A natural tendency towards collaboration, and strong capabilities in running meetings and conversations with warmth, curiosity, and steadiness.
Comfortable using collaborative tools (e.g., Slack, Google Workspace, Monday.com, Airtable) and adapting to evolving systems.
Proven excellence in both big-picture thinking and simultaneous attention to minutia, with proactive logistical follow-through.
Passionate about building global communities and supporting underrepresented voices in media.

It's requisite that applicants for this role be from, living in, and/or deeply familiar with African cultures and media practices, as well as with American media workflows and industry.

They will also co-lead a wide array of master classes and mentorship opportunities for the program’s filmmakers.
This is an intense and highly rewarding program with a mission to make a big impact; we’re looking for someone who’s extremely passionate about using storytelling for social good and has the storytelling/content and management skill set to lead this program with tremendous care, sensitivity, and excitement.
Cull through program applications from filmmakers and organizations, help vet and finalize the program’s participants, hold Q&A sessions for applicants.

Follow production schedules and help coordinate equipment, personnel, and travel needs where needed (remotely), while ensuring all are on schedule.
Review rough cuts with extreme detail and a critical eye, and help hone story flow and narrative arcs.
Book mentors and industry speakers, coordinate filmmaker collaborative feedback sessions, etc.
Work collaboratively with program partners
Help match filmmakers with mentors to strengthen their skills as needed.
Track and approve budgets, stipends, and partner payments across various LatAm countries.
Implement multi-faceted publishing and impact journeys for all 15 films.
A background in and/or deep familiarity with Africa.

Proven track record of program and partnerships management.
Deep knowledge of video production (all stages, from pre-production to post).
Intense attention to detail and an aesthetic eye that can catch tiny mistakes (color grading issues, typos, etc).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proactive and efficient yet balanced manner, who can excel under hard deadlines while juggling multiple (exciting) things.
Strong connections and knowledge of industry players across African and American documentary/filmmaking scenes.
Highly collaborative, with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with large, diverse teams.
Passion for amplifying marginalized voices and supporting emerging filmmakers to succeed and make a living as professional storytellers — and an equal passion for amplifying the missions of inspiring organizations who are working hard for positive social change.
Plus: fluency in French.
