About

Hunter N. Johnson is a freelance documentary editor, filmmaker, and photographer with a special interest in telling stories that seek to defend and advance human rights. His James Beard Award-winning and Emmy-nominated work can be seen on CBS, PBS, CNN, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, The Atlantic and as recurrent Vimeo Staff Picks. He has produced, shot and edited documentaries in 13 countries for various web-series and NGOs, and created branded vignettes for clients like Vox, Capital One and Miller Lite. In 2021, Hunter created a 30-minute documentary following two independent journalists who report on disappearances in Mexico which screened at 11 international film festivals. More recently, Hunter has been an editor on 8 episodes of CBS Reports, a longform documentary series on Paramount+, and produced a series of films for The United Nations Special Rapporteur on Counter-Terrorism and Human Rights. Hunter has a Master in Human Rights and is fluent in Spanish.
