Marica Petrey is a film director, producer, musician, writer, & video-journalist based in Oakland, CA. Currently, Petrey regularly freelances as a video journalist and producer for CALIFORNIA Magazine, where she's directed, shot, and edited over 20 short documentaries. While Petrey is a native English speaker, she also speaks Arabic, Russian, basic Japanese, and has worked and travelled extensively throughout the Middle East, West Africa, Eastern Europe, and Russia. Her favorite dog breed is the Siberian Husky and her favorite animals are mongooses and wolves. When she's not working in documentary, she's producing and directing original passion projects like her short film, Zoey and the Wind-Up Boy, which won Best Fantasy Film at the Roswell Sci-fi Film Festival and Galacticon, and was also a finalist for Best International Short at the Ithaca Fantastik Film Festival in 2017. Currently she is producing her first feature film – a coming-of-age drama called Kaneko’s Owl.
