About

Valerie got her start in journalism and media at KCAW community radio in Sitka, Alaska. She moved to NY and worked at WNYC on various shows before earning her masters in journalism in the third graduating class at the Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY. There she began exploring video and went on to hold producer roles at TIME and Fast Company. She worked as head of video at the Guardian US during the tumultuous campaign years of 2015-6 before landing at Vox. She has also taught at the New School, the Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, and works as a mentor through ICFJ.
