About

Growing up in a small town in Kansas, Stephen Szmed started making films with his friends when he was 13, then never really stopped. One of his first serious forays into director of photography work was a spec commercial he shot for 50 dollars with some gear he borrowed from the rental house he worked at. After graduating Emerson College in 2017, Stephen moved to New York. During the pandemic, Stephen brought his years of experience working on set toward building his reel as director of photography, shooting a number of music videos and short films. When he's not found working on set, he can be found reading, playing piano, or rock climbing.
