About

Nia Weeks is a renowned civic strategist, thought leader, and campaign builder, celebrated for her innovative approaches to voter engagement and community mobilization. Deeply committed to social justice and passionate about storytelling, Nia has devoted her career to empowering marginalized communities, particularly Black women, and advocating for systemic change through strategic advocacy and grassroots organizing. Raised in New Orleans, Nia was deeply influenced by her family's philanthropic values and the rich cultural heritage of her city. These experiences instilled in her a profound dedication to championing the rights of the underrepresented and a lifelong commitment to community service and activism. As the co-founder of Detangled, Nia has leveraged storytelling's transformative power to drive mass engagement and societal change. Under her leadership, Detangled has spearheaded groundbreaking campaigns, such as nearly doubling voter turnout in Louisianas historic 2020 election and securing the passage of the CROWN Act to combat race-based hair discrimination. Nia also founded Citizen SHE United, an organization dedicated to advocating for the rights of Black women in Louisiana. Through Citizen SHE United, she has mobilized grassroots efforts to empower women and families, providing them with the tools and opportunities needed to advocate for their rights and thrive in their communities. Expanding her impact globally, Nia leads Bridging Borders, a program designed to empower girls in rural Ghana. This initiative focuses on education, mentorship, and entrepreneurship training, equipping young women with the skills and confidence to overcome social barriers and become active contributors to their communities. By fostering cross-cultural understanding and amplifying marginalized voices, Nias work in Ghana inspires a new generation of leaders and change-makers.
