Specializing in small crew adventure and documentary format film-making, Nelson's multi-talented resume pulls weight when a large crew isn't available and goes far beyond location audio recording in which he focuses.

About

An avid outdoorsman and a professional level rock climber, Nelson came to film-making through rock climbing photography. Accustomed to high pressure and high consequence environments, long days, and a need for self-sufficiency and clear communication, filmmaking was quickly an obvious fit. By getting his start on small crew outdoor adventure documentaries, Nelson's skill set quickly adapted to support the mainstay roles of DP and Director on small sets: shooting stills and second camera on modern mirrorless cameras, managing data in the DIT role, shooting timelapses, and in particular focusing in on field audio to address the common and serious voids in most production units. While Nelson enjoys working on small sets as a multitalented 'swiss army knife' of a production team, he is currently focusing more on audio recording for TV and film. Nelson mixes on a SoundDevices 633 and relies heavily on his Sennheiser MKH-614 when booming on set.
