Maria is a director and producer based in Los Angeles developing feature documentaries and docuseries.

About

Born in a Hong Kong taxicab, Maria Chiu grew up in New Jersey and Los Angeles. Her work as a director and producer appeared on VICE, BBC, CNN, Buzzfeed, Esquire and Hulu. She recently co-produced the feature film THE EXILES, receiving the Sundance Grand Jury Prize in 2022. Maria's love for documentaries began as an undergrad at UCLA when Professor Goldovskaya graciously allowed her to sit in on an Advanced Documentary class. Maria went on to pursue her masters at Columbia Journalism School and co-directed THE TOWERS, a short film with support from Tribeca Film Institute and ESPN. A blend of storyteller and journalist, Maria likes to go between telling stories of quirky subcultures to investigating multi-billion dollar companies.
