About

Kristin is a documentary filmmaker with a background in law and advocacy and a lifelong passion for justice. She is deeply committed to collaborative storytelling that centers the voices of currently and formerly incarcerated people. She founded Unchained Stories, a social impact production company that is creating a more just world through community-centered storytelling and film. After leaving her non-profit advocacy job in 2011, Kristin helped create a mindfulness and arts program for incarcerated youth. She returned to graduate school to hone her skills as a photographer and visual storyteller. In 2018, she released her first documentary, Becoming Free, which looks intimately at the experience of young adults coming home from prison. Kristin’s work has been recognized by the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, Halcyon, Echoing Green, Public Welfare Foundation, among others, and has been featured at Hillyer Gallery, By The People Festival, Washington Project for the Arts, Busboys & Poets, Awareness Film Festival (LA), the Women's Film Festival and the Santa Fe Film Festival and other venues. Kristin has a BS from Georgetown University, a JD with honors from George Washington University, and an MA in New Media Photojournalism from Corcoran School of the Arts and Design.
