OPPORTUNITIES

Rolling Deadlines:

  • For independent environmental journalists and filmmakers worldwide, The Pulitzer Center hones in on crisis reporting, under-reported stories and global issues.

  • The Rory Peck Trust assists with financial aid for freelance journalists and their families in times of crisis. In association with Google News Initiative, the grant offers assistance to freelancers whose livelihoods have been put at risk as a result of their craft.


Upcoming Deadlines:

  • August 31: BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and/or storytellers with disabilities - there is an initiative waiting for you with The Gotham and HBO Documentary. Gain up to $50 000 for research and development here!

  • August 31: Call for all South African Creatives - win with 4th Street Wine. Showcase your talent and win up to R100k here!

  • September 1: Do you have a compelling climate story? The second annual Bloomberg Green Docs competition is now open to all eligible filmmakers who would like to compete to win a $25,000 grand prize for a short climate documentary.

  • September 4: The annual Berlinale Talents is open for entries A festival development programme of the Berlin International Film Festival for the world’s top emerging filmmakers and creators.

  • September 6: Searching for funding for your upcoming live-action narrative, experimental, animated and/or documentary short or feature or episodic series? The NewNarratives Program has a total of $20,000 available to productions at any stage. Apply now.

  • September 8: SFFILM’s FilmHouse residency program provides Bay Area-based documentary and narrative filmmakers with artistic guidance, office space, a vibrant creative community, and support from established film industry professionals. Apply here.

  • September 8: Calling all environmental filmmakers and photographers from West Africa and Nigeria who are covering various social, environmental and climate crisis issues… The Climate Story Lab Lagos is here! Apply here.

  • September 14: The Radcliffe Fellowship Program awards 50 fellowships each academic year. Applicants may apply as individuals or in a group of two to three people working on the same project. Radcliffe fellows are exceptional scientists, writers, scholars, public intellectuals, and artists whose work is making a difference in their professional fields and in the larger world.

  • October 6: Check out this competitive artist residency for established filmmakers whose documentary projects explore and expand thoughtful consideration of Jewish history, life, culture, and identity. Find out more here!

  • October 17: Want to start early planning for your studies next year? The Kamal Adham Fellowship is partially covering tuition costs, particularly for Egyptian grads, who want to pursue a Masters in Television and Digital Journalism at the American University in Cairo. Is that you? Apply!

  • October 24: Mountain Workshops is currently taking applications for their photojournalism, video storytelling and picture editing workshops.


FESTIVAL SUBMISSIONS

  • August 27: The 10th edition of the UmeĂĄ European Film Festival (UEFF) is officially open! Submit your latest film to three separate categories and stand a chance of being the 2023 prizewinner.

  • August 31: Kolkata International Film Festival is now open to submission. Competition categories include multi language films, documentaries and short fiction. Apply here

  • August 31: Short filmmakers, the Prilep International Film Festival is awaiting your submission… Apply here.

  • September 30: Experimental filmmakers, The Ann Arbor Film Festival is open to submissions. Short and feature filmmakers, applications are now open. Win up to $3,000 in awards.
