About

Diana Larrea (Lima, Perú 1983) is an award-winning documentary filmmaker and photographer currently based in Miami, FL and Cusco, Perú. She was recently selected for the Knight Heroes Short Documentary Development Program for her upcoming documentary “Hatun Sonqo”, supported by IF/Then and the Miami Film Festival, where she also premiered her directorial debut, "Monarcas," a short documentary highlighting the crisis of wage theft among undocumented day laborers in Homestead, FL. She has worked as an editor on several projects, including "Madame Pipi" (2021), "Birthright" (2021), "Fearless" (2020), and the Emmy-winning documentary, “Six Degrees of Immigration” (2019). She was awarded the 2018 Knight Art Champions grant by The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation for her continuing work on identity and territory in Perú. Over the past decade, Diana has collaborated with and captured intimate portraits of Miami artists while documenting communities impacted by development and gentrification. She holds an Associate's degree in Film Production from Miami-Dade College and began her career as an editor for TV stations and institutions. Diana’s goal is to poetically portray and empower the immigrant experience through her work.
