Rafael Roy is a third-culture filmmaker. His work is informed by his roots as a Filipino-American immigrant; born in Queens and raised by activist parents from Manila. As a cinematographer and director, his lens often focuses on the periphery––documenting subcultures and exploring the universal desire to connect and belong. He is a graduate of the UC Berkeley School of Journalism, where he studied documentary film and co-chaired the committee for Equity & Inclusion.

The Video Consortium is a global nonprofit media organization that supports the world’s nonfiction filmmakers and video journalists to tell bold stories that change the world.
