About

Milena Mikael-Debass is an Emmy award-winning journalist with a background in documentary filmmaking, breaking news and international development with a focus on sub-Saharan Africa. She is a director and producer with over a decade of experience covering underreported stories of agency and resistance. During her time at Al Jazeera, Huffington Post and VICE News, Milena produced a variety of projects including live broadcasts, television docuseries and short docs. She co-developed a TV series about global racial justice movements, Black Lives Matter: A Global Reckoning, which she series produced and directed episodes in Israel and Brazil. She also produced for the Peabody Award-winning series Transnational. Born in Switzerland to Eritrean parents, Milena spent her formative years in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.
