About

As a documentary filmmaker, Megumi is passionate about using the power of storytelling to address some of the world's most pressing issues. From environmental sustainability to racial injustice, she believes that film has the power to inspire change and promote understanding. During her time working for the United Nations, she produced and directed documentaries on climate change and biodiversity loss, as well as stories of resilience in the face of natural disasters like the 2011 Tsunami in northeastern Japan. Through these experiences, Megumi witnessed firsthand the transformative impact of sharing personal stories with a global audience. One of her proudest achievements was her award-winning independent film, "Hafu - the mixed-race experience in Japan," which screened theatrically throughout Japan and aired on PBS in the U.S. She then went on to produce "Fall Seven Times, Get Up Eight," which aired on BBC World News and shed light on the experiences of Japanese war brides. Most recently she directed and produced a short film called "Minidoka", published by TIME Magazine, about a young man's journey to understand his family's history of incarceration during World War II and how the lessons he learns can be applied to Trump's America. Today, Megumi continues to work as a freelance Producer & Director in New York, collaborating with organizations and individuals who share her commitment to creating meaningful and impactful stories.
