About

Derin Thorpe is on a mission to create meaningful connections. As a professional videographer and director, Derin creates imaginative and impactful content that draws people in, initiating deeper meaning and connection through powerful visual storytelling. Blue chip companies, Mom-and-Pop shops and NGOs alike rely on Derin for unique video content that creates an important connection to their audience base. His wide-ranging list of notable clients spans Nautica, Facebook, NYNJ Baykeepers, Vogue, Verizon, Ralph Lauren, Bridges to Prosperity, Royal Caribbean, Marriott Hotels, Fiverr and Netflix. Known as the stylized documentarian, Derin specializes in finding stories that might ordinarily be overlooked and then telling those stories in an original way. He thrives on seeing the process all the way through, starting with visual and written concepts and finishing with a complete edit based on each projects unique needs and parameters. Derin enjoys working closely with his clients in a true spirit of collaboration. The son of bohemian parents, art and collaboration are in Derins blood. There were always multiple projects going on in his home drawing, sculpture, calligraphy, photography and film. Seeing a print developed in a darkroom for the first time at the age of 12 sparked his passion for creating art behind the camera. He went on to study at Art Center School of Design, but says his true education came afterward, throughout the many years hes spent working on sets, improving his filmmaking skills. The beauty of setting up a camera, lights, and audio will always remain special and the fabric of who I am, he says. Ever curious about the world at large, Derin loves seeking out new adventures, challenges and experiences. (You can count 1st Place Moose Caller among his varied accolades!) A self-described hunter-gatherer of honesty and beauty, Derin is striving to leave the world a bit better than how he found it, fostering meaningful communication through film.
