About
Katherin Machalek is a documentary director and producer originally from New York, now based in Nairobi, with experience in filmmaking across the globe. She is the owner and founder of Moondust Films, a boutique production company creating films that appeal to multi-cultural audiences. She is known for directing WELCOME (Chicago South Asian Film Festival, 2021), I WAS HERE FIRST (DOC NYC, UnionDocs 2015), and CLIM8 (Altitudes Festival, 2014). As a crew member, she has also contributed to THE RUSSIAN WOODPECKER (Sundance, 2015), THE ACTOR (NY Short Film Festival, 2018), and SISTERS OF THE WICKED WIG (LA Shorts Film Festival, 2016). Her directorial debut, Sunshine State, is set for completion in summer 2026. A native New Yorker, Katherin holds an MFA in Integrated Media Arts from Hunter College and an MA in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
