I'm a sound recordist and documentary filmmaker based in Southeast London. I record for narrative and nonfiction projects alike, and direct my own independent docs.

About

Julia Martin is a London-based filmmaker and sound recordist. She credits her time spent on staff at the award-winning Chicago documentary house Kartemquin Films for her interest in person-driven, observational nonfiction storytelling. She currently freelances as a location sound mixer for narrative and documentary projects alike. She’s interested in work that examines existing narratives around reproductive choice. She directed a short documentary about altruistic surrogacy in the UK in 2022. She has been co-directing a feature documentary about the IUD since 2019.

The Video Consortium is a global nonprofit media organization that supports the world’s nonfiction filmmakers and video journalists to tell bold stories that change the world.
