About

Having witnessed first-hand the damage caused by development projects in the Mekong Region and their frequent disregard for human rights, Chalefun Ditphudee is determined to use her filmmaking skills to document and raise awareness of these issues and affected individuals' stories. With a firm belief in the power of storytelling to create a social movement, Chalefun hopes that, through visual media, she can raise local Mekong people's voices and reinforce community capacity to enable local people to share their narratives and achieve justice. Chalefun has been doing this for more than eight years with EarthRights International, producing several documentaries and educational videos used to mobilize support among a large online audience and bring injustice to authorities' and investors' attention. Her work covers numerous themes, from sustainable development and climate justice to gender equality and rights to participation. In addition, Chalefun has run storytelling video workshops for the young generation in Thailand, Myanmar, and Cambodia. Additionally, Chalefun has been working as a freelance photographer and videographer to identify and develop the local-solution social media video content to highlight what's occurring on the ground in Thailand and the Mekong Region. The client organizations that she worked with, such as DW News, Thai PBS, Prachatai, Terre des hommes, and Punch Up (under the funding from the Pulitzer Center).   Chalefun graduated from Chulalongkorn University, Faculty of Communication Arts, with a degree in Motion Pictures and Still Photography and a minor in Political Science in 2013. She was born in Bangkok, raised in Isan, and then finally decided to name Chiang Mai her home.
