About

Ruoyun Chen is an independent filmmaker and urban systems researcher. She is a fellow at the MIT Open Documentary Lab and a mentee in the NYFA Immigrant Artist Mentoring Program. She did her Master of Science and PhD at Cornell University, majoring in Transportation Engineering and minoring in Information Science. As a filmmaker, Ruoyun co-produced and edited the documentary feature "Saha World," a semifinalist in the 2021 Flicker's Rhode Island International Film Festival. Her most recent short film, "Eve, Eve" (2022), has been recognized at the Mulan International Film Festival, the Berlin Short Film Festival, and has been featured in group exhibition In/Between 2024: Cosmic Domestic at New York Live Arts Gallery of Fort Foundation. Currently, Ruoyun is working on a feature-length documentary titled "We Swim Among Oceans," which delves into the lives of young Chinese poets in diaspora. This project was selected for UnionDocs Summer Lab 2024.
