Akash Chotai

Akash Chotai is a Kenyan based creative director, film maker, photographer and audio engineer. With a Bachelors degree in Audio and Film from the SAE Institute, Akash has over 7 years of experience in the film and music industries, having began his career in Cape Town, South Africa, and eventually bringing those expertise to the Kenyan industry. Akash now heads his own company, Simbali Media, in Nairobi, Kenya, focusing on commercial, documentary and fashion, creating captivating visuals for a wide range of clients such as, IOM (International Organisation of Migration), Iowa State University, Movenpick Hotel and Jäegermeister to name a few. Akash's work in fashion with Kenya’s most influential sustainable fashion brand, Lila Bare, earned him a nomination for best fashion film at Berlin Fashion Film Festival in 2022. As a photographer and film maker, Akash draws much of his inspiration for his visual pieces from film cinematography, incorporating architecture, portraits, landscape and product photography. With the propensity to pick up the camera and capture the world at a moment's notice, his passion for creating propels his perspective and represents something much bigger as he continues to seek the extraordinary in the ordinary.
