About

Aika Kirei is a writer and filmmaker based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. She began her filmmaking career as a self-taught editor and producer, collaborating on a number of productions with local and international directors, including projects for Humboldt Forum, PichaTime, and Nafasi Art Space. A National Geographic Explorer and NEWF Fellow, Aika has written, produced, and directed several films, including the international award-winning environmental animated series, "Chiku & Katope", the documentary short, A Land of Lost Lakes, and Climate in the Minds of Artists. Her work has been screened at multiple festivals around the world as well as to thousands of pupils in Tanzania, raising awareness and positively influencing behaviours and attitudes toward nature and conservation.

The Video Consortium is a global nonprofit media organization that supports the world’s nonfiction filmmakers and video journalists to tell bold stories that change the world.
