Ryan S. Porush is an award-winning documentary filmmaker and writer based in Los Angeles. He has produced, filmed and edited films around the world, with an emphasis in telling longform, character driven stories that give voice to marginalized communities and highlight those in transition. Ryan founded FAR BETWEEN PICTURES in 2017. He received a B.A. from UC Santa Barbara and earned a Master’s degree in Documentary Journalism from New York University. Ryan’s first short film, TWO HUNDRED PERCENT (2016), about one young man’s journey to Israel to reunite with his forgotten father 15 years after a tragic accident, won First Place Documentary Prize at the Los Angeles Reel Film Festival and was acquired by Discover Films for distribution. Ryan associate produced and co-edited KINGS OF THE UNDERGROUND (2016), a six episode documentary series on VICE Sports about New York City’s street football leagues and the players that make up this unheralded subculture. He also served as Story Producer, 2nd Unit Director and Co-editor on a forthcoming 2020/21 reboot of this series, titled SHOWOUT. Ryan’s first feature documentary, THE PASSENGERS (2020), tells the story of the final community of Ethiopian Jews and its collective struggle to immigrate to Israel. The film recently won the Human Rights Jury Prize at the 2020 Atlanta Jewish Film Festival, and has been acquired by Collective Eye Films for distribution. Ryan served as Director, Producer, Cinematographer, Co-Editor. Ryan's next documentary film, titled A SCHOOL GROWS IN WATTS, profiles an overachieving charter school in the historically underserved community of Watts in South Los Angeles, and those working to improve it through education.
