About

Maya Bell is a visual journalist, documentary filmmaker and teacher based in Mid-Missouri. Maya graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Missouri in May 2023 with a degree in Documentary Filmmaking and Photojournalism. She worked on the visual staff of the Columbia Missourian for over a year and a half, eventually becoming the Assistant Director of Photography. Maya's first short film, Small Changes, won Best Film at the Stronger Than Fiction Film Festival and went on to show at several festivals across the country. She is currently working as an Adjunct Instructor for a visual journalism class at the University of Missouri, an assistant editor on a feature archival film, and a video intern with the Missouri Department of Correction.

The Video Consortium is a global nonprofit media organization that supports the world’s nonfiction filmmakers and video journalists to tell bold stories that change the world.
