I love location sound recording because it is a powerful but invisible craft. Often overlooked by novice media makers, high quality sound production plays a vital role in an audience’s emotional connection to the work.

About

Fivel Rothberg specializes in recording location sound for documentary films. Previously he produced nonfiction films and wrote grants on behalf of nonprofits, filmmakers, and other artists. Clients included the American Association of State Colleges & Universities, Leslie-Lohman Museum, Human Rights Foundation, and South Asian Council for Social Services. Over the last three years he helped secure millions of dollars funding from funders such as Citi, Ford, Mellon, NEA, NYSCA, Rockefeller Brothers Fund, and Wells Fargo. Fivel produced a feature-length documentary by Nathan Fitch, “Island Soldier,” about Micronesian citizens serving in the US military. “Island Soldier” had the backing of PBS-affiliate Pacific Islanders in Communications. It premiered at Full Frame 2017, had its international premiere at HotDocs 2017 and aired on World Channel. He was the Associate Producer of Kelly Anderson’s film, “My Brooklyn,” which aired in 2014 on the PBS series America ReFramed. Based in Brooklyn, NY but originally from Philadelphia, he still pronounces water as “wooder.” He adores parenting, horseshoe crabs and volunteering at Interference Archive, an archive of global social movement materials.
