I am a recent graduate of Columbia Journalism School where I dabbled in multimedia storytelling. I have worked on several beats including homelessness, inequity and healthcare. I want to keep practicing filmmaking to get better, one day at a time.

About

Debadrita Sur (Deb) is a journalist based in New York City. A recent graduate of the journalism program at Columbia University, she has worked on several issues, including housing and homelessness, healthcare and inequity. Her master’s thesis was a multimedia project about medical negligence against women of color in the United States and whether the DEI policies are fostering a change. She also co-produced a twelve-minute documentary on food insecurity in the south Bronx where the film followed a senior on her journey to putting food on the table. She has served as a Film and Documentary coordinator at the Columbia chapter of Society of Professional Journalists. She is also a member of South Asian Journalists Association. Originally from Kolkata, India, she has worked remotely since the pandemic for a London-based cultural magazine, Far Out Magazine and their sister publication, Best of Netflix, as a film columnist where she wrote features, reviews, opinions, lists and daily breaking news stories.
