Still Here, Still Moving: A celebration of Indigenous filmmakers

After party for the Indigenous films: Medicine Ball, Why We Dance, Source to Sea: A Winter Migration, and The Boom.

Featuring Indigenous performers and vendors from across the region, VC Minneapolis is partnering with Ryan Stopera to host a party after the screening of Why We Dance with music, dance, food, and drinks.

In partnership with Indigenous Roots Cultural Arts Center, the event will showcase Roots Cafe, Skoden Studios, Can I Have Some?, and Nina and Nolan Berglund selling a variety of Native goods. DJ Bleubird will be traveling to Minneapolis, spinning a live set, and a surprise guest will be joining us for a special dance performance.

The event caps off an entire day of programming centering our thriving Indigenous filmmaker community:

  • At 12:30pm there will be an Indigenous Storytelling Roundtable. Indigenous filmmakers gather for a conversation about the inspiration behind their films and the unique challenges they endure in making them and bringing them into the world.

  • At 2pm Leya Hale premieres her new documentary Medicine Ball.

  • At 4pm Kalpulli Yaocenoxtli performs before the premiere of Why We Dance .
