Sophia Abolfathi is an Emmy®-winning documentary filmmaker based in Florida. Her debut short documentary, A Seat at the Table (2023), screened at numerous film festivals nationwide and was honored by the Grand Jury Award for Student Film (AFF '24), Best Civic Story (BCFF '24), and Best Collegiate Documentary (OBFF '24). Sophia's recent producing and directing credits include March of the Mangroves (Suncoast Regional Emmy Awards '24 - Winner; BCFF Best Student Film ‘24) and Sunflower (OBFF Official Selection '25). She is also an award-winning nonfiction writer (Hearst Journalism Awards '25 - Explanatory Reporting). Across formats, Sophia's storytelling is marked by her intimate unveiling of our shared human histories, families, and memories.
