Shruti Parekh is a filmmaker, video-journalist, and artist from Atlanta, currently pursuing her MFA in Film Directing/Production at UCLA. While Shruti is currently focusing on creating her own narrative film work, she has an extensive background in nonfiction film and video. Before moving to Los Angeles, Shruti worked in New York City as a Video Journalist and Producer for Gizmodo Media Group's digital news site, Splinter (formerly Fusion), focusing on social justice and politics-driven digital content. During her time there, she started and co-produced Splinter’s “Racist History” series and worked on Splinter’s award-winning Standing Rock coverage. Shruti has also created videos for clients such as Food & Wine Magazine, NYLON, and WIRED, as well as for social justice and nonprofit organizations such as the National Domestic Workers' Alliance, Seeds of Peace, and Adhikaar. In 2011, Shruti worked with acclaimed director Mira Nair on her film "The Reluctant Fundamentalist," and has worked on three award-winning documentaries as an Assistant Editor. Shruti has also directed, shot, & edited more than fifteen music videos. In addition to film and video work, Shruti is also an accomplished photographer specializing in portraits, headshots, and street photography.
