Sally Tran, a Vietnamese-New Zealand filmmaker based in New York City, enriches her storytelling with insights from her diverse cultural background. Her career is decorated with accolades from esteemed bodies such as the NZ Film Commission, Creative NZ, and Asian NZ, alongside recognitions like the Massey University Writers residency, Berlinale Talents, and the Script To Screen Grant. Tran's short film "Don't" received funding from notable sources including NYCWF, NYFA, Panavision, Vimeo BIPOC fund, and MOME. Currently, her documentary "Still a Go Between" has secured support from the BRIC film Labs cohort and the Tribeca Initiative. Tran's forthcoming projects, "DONT" and "Clementine," tackle significant societal issues such as Asian hate crimes, displacement, community dynamics, and transgender identity complexities. Her collaborative approach often involves working with LGBTQIA filmmakers, reflecting her commitment to inclusivity.
