About
Jose M. Pichardo Jr. is a documentary filmmaker, licensed drone pilot, and founder of Pichardo Creative Collective, Inc. and Pichardo Productions, LLC. Based in Bayonne, NJ, his work explores themes of social justice, cultural preservation, and community resilience. Jose’s recent documentary, An Army Rising Up, is currently airing on PBS, and his projects have been adopted into university curricula and recognized by film festivals. Through hands-on youth training, civil rights storytelling, and grassroots collaborations in areas like East Harlem and the Mississippi Delta, he continues to use film as a tool to educate, empower, and preserve community memory.

An Army Rising Up
Drawing from intimate interviews with high school students and educators in the Mississippi Delta, student shot footage, and archival material, An Army Rising Up is a short documentary that follows the journey of twenty-two high schoolers from the Mississippi Delta as they explore and document their communities’ connections to Civil Rights icons Emmett Till and Fannie Lou Hamer.
