About

Matthew Oakes has always been interested in building community and is interested in documentary's relationship to that. Matthew strives for his media to be an avenue for education and explores how poetic mediums influence that. Currently apart of featured length documentary 'in love, memory' as an assistant editor, Matthew has gained the experience of a long-term project. While shadowing and influencing the documentary, he got an in depth look at the entire process. He has worked with the small editing team to analyze story structure, pacing and character's dialogue. Matthew has found a passion within documentary editing and has used adobe premiere to create his own shorts. Ranging from topics of gentrification, trauma and immigration, Matt looks to apply his existing projects to future endeavors.
