Lindsay Nyman

Lindsay Nyman is an award-winning documentary filmmaker based in Vancouver, Canada. A graduate of the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television, she began her career founding programs providing blind and low-vision actors and filmmakers with industry access and infrastructure. Her documentary practice explores women-led narratives, access, and grassroots organizing. Her short documentary They Call Me The Tattoo Witch, filmed in Hanoi with an all-women local crew, screened at more than 50 international film festivals and qualified for the 98th Academy Awards (2026). She is an incoming MA student at Simon Fraser University's School for the Contemporary Arts, where her research examines first-person narrative storytelling across media, shifting the ethical storytelling paradigm from filmmaker-led protection to participant-led agency, equity, and well-being. Parallel to her research, she is founding a nonprofit that provides funding and resources to support women filmmakers in authoring stories from within their own communities to advance gender equity.
