About

In her career, Kiana Jackson has worked almost exclusively in documentary – allowing her passion and curiosity for honest storytelling and real people to guide her as she produces content for TV, film, and digital platforms including Netflix, PBS, HBO and Disney. She has developed and produced content which centers BIPOC voices and perspectives, most recently “Black Girls Play: The Story of Hand Games” which was shortlisted for an Academy Award, in addition to “Going to Mars: The Nikki Giovanni Project,” which won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. Whether she is entrenched in the lives of high schoolers attending an all-black boarding school in rural Mississippi, connecting with children of parents who have been incarcerated, or listening to the experiences of BIPOC folks surviving in a white healthcare system, Kiana has always held the belief that film does not give a voice to people, but has the capacity to amplify and center their story in the way they want it to be told. Kiana was selected to be a part of the DocNYC 40 under 40 2024 list, which spotlights emerging documentary talent. Originally from California, now living and working in Brooklyn, New York; she can be found hiking with her beagle or not found, because she's in her apartment watching a movie.
