About

Joy is a video producer with experience across documentary filmmaking, broadcast news, and digital/social video. Currently she leads production at Eastern Standard Times, a digital platform dedicated to telling Asian stories through microdocs, explainers, news reports, and more. Before EST, Joy worked with director Dawn Porter to story-produce Cirque du Soleil: Without a Net which premiered at DOC NYC 2022 as the centerpiece film. At Great Big Story, Joy produced short docs reaching 12 million+ viewers across YouTube and other platforms; at CNN International, she covered major breaking news as a producer and editor. Her 30-minute film from 2016 about black dancers in classical ballet won a Student Academy Award. Joy came to America from Seoul, South Korea when she was 12 years old, and believes that storytelling is one of the most effective tools in building understanding and connection beyond cultural differences.
