JAMYLA EUNIQUE KREMPEL (she/her) is a writer, producer and director. She recently made her directorial debut with the short film DWELLING.
Her work explores identity, the impact of place on an individual and the power of memory. She loves telling stories about outsiders, interpersonal miscommunication and cultural misunderstanding with the intention of making people laugh, think and connect.
With the DWELLING feature script, Jamyla was selected for the 2023 cohort of the Saul Zaentz Innovation Fund Fellows and the project received a Zaentz Fund screenplay development grant. The project advanced to the second round of consideration for the Sundance Institute Development Track. Jamyla’s other two scripts were selected for the Quarterfinal Round of the 2016 Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting competition and the 2017 Saul Zaentz Innovation Fund Screenplay Lab.
Before transitioning into film, Jamyla was an award-winning journalist. She is production coordinator for the GIRL ISLAND documentary, is collaborating on film and audio projects and teaches podcasting at a local university.
A native of the Baltimore area, Jamyla is passionate about writing stories centered in and around the city she loves.
