Hany Hawasly is an award-winning filmmaker, educator, and community builder with a special interest in stories from the Middle East.

About

Born and raised in Syria, Hany is passionate about telling nuanced stories between the Middle East and the United States. He is fluent in both Arabic and English and works as a bilingual editor, producer, translator, and cultural consultant on a variety of projects — from interactive journalism reports to feature-length documentary films, indie shorts, and branded spots. Hany serves as the Director of Systems and Technology at The Video Consortium, a global nonprofit media organization that connects and supports today's nonfiction filmmakers and visual journalists to tell bold stories that change the world; Director of Technology at the Missouri Photo Workshop, the world's longest running documentary photography learning experience; and also teaches Multimedia Storytelling and Digital Storytelling and Journalism at New York University.
