About

Mary Hall is an award-winning reporter, producer and editor, with expertise in solutions, long-form and digital journalism. Mary is currently the senior producer for Change Agents, an audio series bringing together community "change agents" with emerging journalists, predominantly of color, to document innovative solutions to society's most pressing issues. Mary has collaborated on projects with NPR, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Illinois Answers Project (Better Government Association), The Trace, YES! Magazine, the Solutions Journalism Network, and more. She helped form NewsNation's inaugural solutions journalism team; was a producer/editor at WBEZ; an editor/reporter at the Daily Journal; and produced a documentary accepted into the American Documentary Film Festival. In addition, Mary uses her breadth of experience to design digital strategy for journalism and personal brands, nonprofits and special projects. She has designed curriculum for mid-career journalists; developed newsroom style guides and website redesigns; launched successful print and digital products; put together funding campaigns; helped organize the FOIAFest conference, and facilitated a staff-led overhaul of DEI practices within Chicago Public Media. She is on the board of the Chicago Headline Club, the local chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. Mary was born in St. Louis; grew up in Quito, Ecuador; and now lives in a 100-year-old bungalow on Chicago's Southwest Side.
