Courtney B. Cook, PhD, is a producer, cultural strategist, and Professor of Public History and Documentary Film at Texas State University. Her work sits at the intersection of documentary storytelling, socially engaged art, and public history. For six years, Cook worked with independent filmmakers through PBS’s POV, where she shaped education and impact strategy and supported hundreds of documentary films in reaching communities through engagement campaigns grounded in relational ethics and social justice. With a background spanning American literature, journalism, poetry, cultural studies, and performance, she brings more than fifteen years of experience building collaborations across the documentary, arts, and nonprofit sectors. As a producer and creative collaborator, she has worked with internationally recognized artists including Cassils and with research-driven creative initiatives such as MIT’s Open Documentary Lab. Based in Austin, Cook is committed to supporting projects that expand access to transformative storytelling and connect filmmakers, artists, and communities.
