Claire AveLallemant

Charlotte, NC US
Documentary editor with a passion for experimenting with form and telling stories that seek to bring more empathy into the world

Claire Ave'Lallemant (she/her) is a queer documentary editor. She chose to forgo the traditional college path and pursue hands-on education which she received as an assistant editor on Cecilia Aldarondos award-winning feature documentary, MEMORIES OF A PENITENT HEART (Tribeca 2016 & POV 2017). She credits this film for introducing her to the sheer power of the medium to reach into hearts and change minds. In 2018, Claire was nominated and selected to participate in the inaugural year of Karen Schmeer Film Editing Fellowship's Diversity In The Edit Room mentorship program. After assisting on several features, she has gone on to edit documentary series such as CHOIR (Tribeca 2023 & Disney+ 2024), THE PHARMACIST (Netflix, 2020) and DOGS (Netflix, 2018 & 2021). Her recent feature projects include DROWNING IN SILENCE (Santa Barbara International Film Festival, 2022) and FLIPSIDE (Toronto International Film Festival, 2023). Claire considers herself to be a storyteller first and foremost and believes editing documentaries is inherently writing. She pursues projects that aim to bring more compassion into a tumultuous world. While she is open to exploring stories of all subjects, she is keenly interested in those which center LGBTQIA+, women, generational trauma, mental health, and memory. She has a robust edit setup capable of local or remote work and experience working across time zones with film teams.
