I am an independent documentary filmmaker and editor from the stigmatized indigenous tribe in India raised in the traditions of political street theatre. My documentary practice is rooted in the documentation process. I am based in Boston, Mass.

About

Abhi is from a marginalized indigenous community in India who were stigmatized as 'Born Criminals' by the British in 1871. He has been practicing documentary filmmaking on the ground for almost a decade as a Cinematographer, Editor and AE. He was first exposed to street theatre to fight for his community's rights in India and grew up watching documentary films from all over the world, especially films of Anand Patwardhan and Agnes Varda which has influenced Abhi in his documentary approach. Abhi got an opportunity to work with Ananad Patwardhan in documentary film REASON as a second cinematographer and AE which won IDFA Best Feature Doc Award in 2018. Abhi has also worked with renowned documentarian Dakxin Chhara as an AE, assistant director and cinematographer. He has documented some of India's socio-political movements with his DSLR camera and followed the same practice during the Black Lives Matter protest in 2020 Boston. He is working on his first US feature documentary in Boston, Mass and has been developing for almost 2 years.
