About

Stephen Brown is an artist, community organizer, and entrepreneur from Jackson, MS. He graduated from Murrah High School before heading to Loyola University in New Orleans to earn his bachelor’s degree in public relations and a minor in music business in 2008. From January 2013 to June 2023, Stephen served as the Assistant Director of Outreach for the Jackson Get2College Center. During his time there, he became a member of the Southern Association of College Admission Counselors from which he received the Rising Star Award in 2017. He was appointed to the board of the same organization in 2019 and served until 2022. During his tenure at Get2College, Stephen assisted students with college planning, financial aid, most notably ACT Prep services, having helped multiple students increase their overall scores by as many as 10 points. Stephen continues this work under his independent education counseling agency GoodEDvice. Stephen is a recording artist and music producer who performs under the pseudonym 5th Child. He has released 10 solo albums, 5 instrumental albums, and performed live shows throughout the region for the last 20 years. He was featured in the September 2022 edition of Rolling Stone Magazine. Also in September 2022, Stephen purchased an abandoned building in his neighborhood and converted it into an arts and community center called Briarwood Arts Center. BAC provides a space for artists of various disciplines to learn and grow as entrepreneurs, while offering mentorship and coaching to sharpen their creative skillsets. In July 2025, Stephen assumed ownership of Riverside Community Coffeehouse in South Jackson which is a coworking coffee & ice cream shop that teaches entrepreneurship skills to teenagers. Stephen currently lives in Jackson, MS with his wife Jessica and his son Jazz.
