Resilient Reporting: Safety Training for Journalists is a 3-part virtual workshop series presented by Video Consortium in partnership with Radically Rural. Designed for journalists and other visual storytellers, the series offers practical training in physical safety, digital security, and psychological first aid. Led by experts from the International Women's Media Foundation, Freedom of the Press Foundation, and the Media Resilience Network, each workshop provides actionable strategies to help participants assess risk, protect their work, build resilience, and report with greater confidence.

During the first session, Rosem Morton, Next Gen Safety Trainer at the International Women’s Media Foundation, will cover topics including identity-focused risk assessment, risk mitigation, and other physical safety best practices.

 

FACILITATOR BIO:

Rosem Morton is a Filipina documentary photographer and journalist based in Ann Arbor. Drawing from her varied experiences, she examines how gender, health, and racial inequities shape everyday life. Her photography and writing have been featured in National Geographic, The Washington Post, NPR, CNN, and EdSurge. Beyond her reporting, Rosem serves as a journalism safety trainer and adviser, fostering trauma-informed and identity-aware practices to support journalists in the field. She is also a National Geographic Explorer, a Knight-Wallace Fellow, and an International Women’s Media Foundation Fellow.
