Earth Day Screening

Celebrate the Earth with Bay Area documentaries!

This month, we’re turning the spotlight back to our most precious resource: Mother Earth!

Join us on April 23 at 447 Minna in San Francisco for an evening of powerful documentaries inspired by Earth Day, curated by Video Consortium Bay Area. After the screenings, stay for a Q&A with the filmmakers, then connect with fellow nonfiction creators over drinks and snacks.

We have prepared an amazing lineup of short films:

Our World is Changing / Dir. Mischa Hedges: (Yupik Pronounciation: Chla-vut jee-mik-tuk) As the village of Quinhagak works to save its cultural artifacts from washing into the Bering Sea, a local filmmaker explores her community’s relationship with its language and ways of life in Southwest Alaska.

The Bird Rescue Center / Dir. Derek Knowles: A cinematic window into the world of a California bird rescue sanctuary and the people who give wildlife a second chance.

Maria & The Flock / Dir. Austin Meyer: Maria Goller, an avian researcher with her PhD in biology, who dedicates her life to caring for the most exploited land animal on planet earth: chickens. By showcasing Maria's work caring for 150 rescued hens at one of the country's largest farmed animal sanctuaries, this film illustrates the lasting impacts of the industrialized farming system on the lucky few who make it out alive. It also demonstrates the individuality of a species bred and killed by the tens of billions each year.
