Collaborative Conversations is a series of six online workshops with producers and directors across Europe teaching about co-productions and how they vary from country to country.
Taking place online from November through 2026, this monthly series will highlight co-productions with France, Germany, Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Sweden.
Join us for a conversation about the ins and outs of leveraging coproductions with Germany, led by Antonia Kilian. Antonia Kilian is a producer, and sometimes a director, living between Kassel and Berlin. She studied Visual Communication and Art and Media at the University of the Arts Berlin, as well as Cinematography at the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf and at the ISA in Havana, Cuba. For her debut as a producer (and as a director) THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RIVER, which focuses on the struggle for self-determination of a young woman, she filmed for over a year in the Kurdish regions known as Rojava in northeastern Syria. She developed THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RIVER as part of ExOriente, IDFA Summer School, and the Baltic Sea Forum. THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RIVER has won 18 awards at international film festivals, including the German Film Academy Award LOLA for Best Documentary and the Grimme Award, and was shortlisted for the European Film Academy Award in 2021.
This series costs €3/workshop and is open to the public. If prospective participants find the €3 cost prohibitive, we’ll offer fee waivers. Both of our organizations aim to elevate imaginative nonfiction cinema and build community across the industry and we’re delighted to collaborate to produce this series.
