Amplifying Voices from the Global South: London

A multi-city screening series from VC x Al Jazeera English

VC London is thrilled to team up with Al Jazeera English for Amplifying Voices from the Global South on Wednesday, Oct 15 at 6pm. The screening officially starts at 6:30pm.

Join us at Rich Mix for a special evening of connection, conversation, and bold storytelling centered on two of the most defining issues of our time: climate and migration.

The screening includes a Q&A with the filmmakers and networking over light bites and zero-proof drinks.

From a climate refugee building a future for her baby, to disappearing landscapes and overfishing affecting the livelihoods of Indigenous communities, these moving true stories reveal resilience and the fight for justice in a changing world.

FEATURING:

đŸ„Š BMCLD, directed by Shreela Agarwal
Amidst Mumbai's relentless pursuit of progress, a boxing club fights to preserve its legacy against the backdrop of urban redevelopment threatening its existence.

🏠 Finding Home, directed by Maria Stanisheva
A short animated documentary that tells the personal story of Antonia Jardenia da Silva from Brazil: a climate refugee forced to move from her home village to the big city in order to take care of her newborn baby as it struggles with microcephaly.

đŸ›¶ Lost Songs of Sundari, directed by Sudarshan Sawant
Once an island city linked by the sea, modern bridges and land reclamation have reshaped Mumbai’s landscape, disrupting the lives of its original communities. An old man, an enigmatic woman, and a child take turns narrating how their world, once bound by tradition and the sea, is now dissolving amidst rapid transformation and urbanization.

📱 Serigne vs the EU, directed by Rodrigo Hernández, Adriana Cardoso & Edu Marín
A Senegalese fisherman runs for office in Madrid, drawing on his experience as both migrant and fisherman to campaign against xenophobia and European overfishing in African waters. After his election, Serigne Mbaye returns to Senegal to meet the fishermen most affected, exposing the insidious link between European overfishing and irregular migration — and presents his findings to EU policymakers.
