About

Louie Poore is an MFA student in the Wake Forest University Documentary Film program. He graduated from the University of California Berkeley summa cum laude with a B.A. in English and holds a professional certificate in Digital Storytelling & Content Strategy from the University of Washington. He's been working in commercial and documentary film as a director, cinematographer, and editor for the last decade, producing work for national brands as well as short non-fiction and narrative works. As a filmmaker, he's drawn to telling people stories — focusing on and exploring what moves us, what connects us, and how we make our way in the world. He's a capable verité shooter but loves lighting interviews, too. He's also involved in arts orgs: as the Community Engagement and Education Coordinator at RiverRun International Film Festival, Louie brings film and media education into classrooms in the Piedmont Triad. Prior to film, Louie worked in advertising as a copywriter and creative director with a special interest in nonprofit clients. A California native, he and his family relocated to North Carolina in 2021. He and his wife have two kids and a rowdy rescue pit bull named Juanita.

Featured Work

United

The mostly elderly residents of a Winston-Salem public housing high-rise apartment building band together to form Crystal Towers United, a tenant's union whose aim is to fight for better living conditions. A leader in Crystal Towers United, resident Michael Douglas plans to speak at an upcoming City Council meeting where he will make the case for increased attention on the conditions at Crystal Towers, while also unveiling the next phase in the union's efforts to get what they — and other poor and struggling tenants across the city — deserve.
