"EAT BITTER" at DOC NYC 2023
Eat Bitter is selected for DOC NYC. We would like to invite you to the New York City Premiere of our documentary feature, Eat Bitter, co-directed by Pascale Appora-Gnekindy, from Bangui, Central African Republic, and Ningyi Sun, from China. Mathieu Faure is the producer of the film.
Eat Bitter received funding from the Sundance Documentary Institute, the Ford Foundation, IDFA Bertha Fund, Hot Docs Blue Ice Fund, DocA, Alter-Cine, and Chicken and Egg and had its world premiere at CPH:DOX in March.

Logline: An eye-opening drama about a Chinese immigrant and a Central African sand fisherman in their pursuit of wealth and happiness during a civil war.
Synopsis: Against the backdrop of the civil war in the Central African Republic, a Chinese construction manager and local African laborer work on opposite ends of the spectrum to construct a sparkling new bank. As deadlines loom, unexpected twists threaten their jobs, relationships, and plans for a better life.

EAT BITTER has been selected to 30 film festivals around the world since its World Premiere in March at CPH:DOX (Denmark). Among them: Visions du Reel (Switzerland), Hot Docs (Canada), Atlanta Film Festival (US), Doc Edge (New Zealand), Shanghai International Film Fest (China), Encounters (South Africa), Melbourne International Film Festival (Australia), and DMZ (South Korea).
