Announcing the University Initiative
We're committed to making careers in documentary filmmaking and video journalism more accessible for everyone—including students! That’s why we’re thrilled to launch the University Initiative, designed to empower and connect doc film and video journalism students across the U.S. through virtual gatherings, specialized trainings, mentorship, and a contest sponsored by Sony Electronics.
Students are eligible for a discounted VC Gold membership, which unlocks free admission to all VC gatherings and workshops across the globe, exclusive programming, and more to help you jumpstart your career.
📝 Our first virtual session goes live on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2pm EST. Award-winning filmmaker Léo Hamelin will cover everything you need to land your first nonfiction video job, build a standout portfolio, navigate freelance vs. staff roles, and standout in a competitive industry.
📝 Our second virtual session on Wednesday, Mar. 26, 2pm EST features Emmy Award-winning filmmaker John Beder. You'll learn how to turn an idea into a film, secure funding, and build a network (and find a mentor) that opens doors.
