About

Yara El Murr is a Toronto-based multimedia journalist and documentary filmmaker covering health, climate, migration, labor, and the legacies of Lebanon civil war in writing and in film. As a journalist at The Public Source, she wrote in-depth feature articles on the impact of climate on agriculture, the oral history of local medicinal plants, the buried dreams of delivery drivers, and Lebanon's failed COVID-19 public health strategies. Her recent 3-part investigation into the human cost of border control "Intercepted at Sea" has won AMEJA's Best Coverage in the MENA award, and was shortlisted for the Fetisov journalism awards in the Civil Rights category. El Murr was also recognized as Young Journalist of the Year in 2023 by the Foreign Press Association UK. In parallel, El Murr helped produce and disseminate The Soil and the Sea, a feature documentary that explores the link between mass graves in Lebanon and the fate of the missing from the civil war. She was also associate producer and assistant editor on We Never Left, a documentary that follows Lebanese immigrants in New York as they navigate revolution, crisis, and collapse from afar.
